Yes! Some people are definitely better at picking up patterns and then applying them in positions that are similar, but not exactly the same. But that's a skill that can be built too I Think!

Exquisite! In Byrne-Fischer, after 17...Be6!!, Stockfish thinks that White puts up the most resistance with 18.Qxc3, and after 18...Qxc5 19.dxc5 Bxc3 20.Bxe6 Rxe6, Black has a winning endgame, but it seems to me the conversion is far from simple.
Agree on pattern recognition. Just hard to convince myself (and others) how much repetition it actually takes to ingrain patterns

It's amazing! On stream last night I mentioned how I probably would have got caught up in analyzing 17...Bxf3, making it even harder to see ...Be6!
