Happy Halloween!
This week’s video1, is all about practical chess tricks to save positions that appear totally lost. These swindles should get you into the “Never Resign” spirit.
Featured games:
Larry Evans- Sammy Reshevsky from the 1963-64 US Chess Championship (yes, the same one Bobby Fischer went 11-0 in!)
My dad, FM Mike Shahade against FM Jon Jacobs, author of a Pawn Made Flesh
IM Lu Miaoyi vs. IM Laura Unuk, a game that’s also covered in my puzzle book, Play Like a Champion
As you may guess from the video, we are huge Halloween enjoyers over here, and have been celebrating all month. This year, my son went for Minecraft round two (see last year’s get-up here), while I embraced the mom pun “cheese champion.”
I’m switching it up tomorrow. Think you can guess the costume? Go ahead and try- use the comments here or on YouTube. Update: Here is the answer!
Till then, some fun pix from a Fall chess festival where I took on all comers, even a dinosaur.

On my bookshelf this week: Muppets in Moscow by Natasha Lance Rogoff and Much Loved by Mark Nixon.
